Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Base Command (“Base Command,” “we,” “us”). They cover your use of the Base Command app at app.familybasecommand.com and this website (together, the “Service”). By signing in to or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.
The short version
- Base Command is a family organizer. Use it for your family, and keep your sign-in and your tablets secure.
- Your family’s data belongs to you. We store it and show it to your family, and that’s all.
- Merits and rewards are a game between you and your kids. They aren’t money.
- The Service is free for now, is provided as is, and may change over time.
- Wyoming law applies.
This summary isn’t a substitute for the full Terms below.
1. Who can use Base Command
You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to create an account. You may let your children and others in your household use Base Command on devices you’ve signed in or paired. You’re responsible for how they use it, and for making sure you have the right to enter information about the people you add.
2. Your account and devices
- You sign in with your Google account. Keep it secure. You’re responsible for activity under your account and on the tablets you pair.
- Anyone who can see a paired wall tablet can see what’s on it, and anyone who knows the Command PIN can use the parent controls on it. Choose PINs carefully, and remove tablets you no longer control in Command → Settings → Family & devices.
- If you think someone has used your account without permission, tell us right away at support@familybasecommand.com.
3. Your content
“Your Content” means everything you and your family put into Base Command, such as names, events, duties, schoolwork and rewards. You own Your Content. You give us permission to store, copy, process and display it only as needed to run the Service for you, for example to show it on your family’s devices and, if you ask, to sync it with Google Calendar. This permission ends when Your Content is deleted, apart from backup copies that expire on their normal schedule. You’re responsible for Your Content, and you confirm that you have the right to add it.
4. Google Calendar
Connecting Google Calendar is optional. When you connect it, you authorize Base Command to read the calendars you choose and to create, change and delete events in your Google Calendar when your family does those things in Base Command, as described in our Privacy Policy. Changes made on any of your family’s devices are written to Google Calendar, so your Google Calendar can change when someone in your household edits or deletes an event in Base Command. Your use of Google’s services is governed by Google’s own terms. You can disconnect at any time.
5. Merits, rewards and ranks
Merits, ranks, medals, crates and the rest of Base Command’s reward system are virtual points for motivating your family. They have no cash value, can’t be bought, sold or exchanged for money, and aren’t anyone’s property. Rewards in the PX and Supply Drop prizes are set by parents, and any real-world reward is provided by the parent, not by Base Command. Nobody pays to spin the Supply Drop wheel; crates are a bonus earned by finishing things.
6. Homeschool records
Academy is an organizing tool. It isn’t an official school record, and we don’t promise that it meets any state’s or country’s homeschool requirements. Keep whatever records your state requires; you can export your data at any time from Command → Settings → Data.
7. Acceptable use
Please don’t:
- use the Service to break the law or to harm anyone;
- try to access another family’s data or anyone else’s account;
- interfere with, overload or disrupt the Service, or probe its security without our written permission;
- copy, scrape, reverse engineer or resell the Service, except as the law allows; or
- store or share content that’s illegal or abusive, or that you don’t have the right to share.
8. Price
Base Command is free to use right now. If we introduce paid features, we’ll tell you in advance, and you won’t be charged unless you agree.
9. Changes to the Service, and ending
We’re always improving Base Command and may add, change or remove features. We may also suspend or end the Service. If we decide to shut Base Command down, we’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice when we can, so you can export your data.
You can stop using Base Command at any time and ask us to delete your account, as described in our Privacy Policy. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms or puts the Service or other families at risk. Where it’s reasonable, we’ll tell you first and give you a chance to export your data.
10. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent the law allows, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t promise that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that data will never be lost. Base Command isn’t a safety, medical or emergency tool. Don’t rely on it as your only reminder of something important, such as medication or a critical appointment.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Base Command won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or US $50. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
12. Indemnity
If you use the Service in breach of these Terms or the law and that leads to a claim against us, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs arising from that claim, to the extent the law allows.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Before filing a claim, please email us at support@familybasecommand.com and give us 30 days to try to resolve it informally. Any dispute that can’t be resolved that way will be handled exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming, and you and we consent to the jurisdiction of those courts. If the consumer laws where you live give you the right to bring a claim in your local courts, these Terms don’t take that right away.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We’ll post the new version here with a new date, and if a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Base Command after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms.
15. General
These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we don’t enforce a provision right away, we haven’t given up the right to enforce it later. You may not transfer these Terms without our consent; we may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
